Brainfinity is a collaborative problem solving challenge, a unique competition in the region where elementary school students in years 5 through 8 solve real-life problems in teams using all the benefits of Information Technology.
This allows students to experience project-based learning (PBL) and explore topics they are interested in without the fear of giving a wrong answer and through an entirely different approach that strengthens team spirit.
Brainfinity is not just a competition in which students receive points for their answers. First of all, they have to think of a name for their four-member team and create a team logo and email. This process allows them to showcase their organizational abilities, teamwork, information and esthetic literacy, and for this they also receive points.
Solving Brainfinity problems is also an interesting experience, as the teams solve detective tasks using computers, tablets, telephones, Google, or simply ask their friends for advice. Brainfinity encourages children to use efficient means to solve problems, as they help them develop their personal skills.
Another distinctive Brainfinity feature is that teams present their answers in the finals to a jury. This way, children develop their public speaking, communication and social skills, which is particularly beneficial for introverted children as it allows them to step out of their comfort zone.
Brainfinity contributes to Serbia’s education system in a socially responsible manner, providing educators, teachers and professors with excellent examples they can use in their kindergartens, schools and universities. Furthermore, the contest advocates the idea that children should learn without any pressure, using all technological resources of the 21st century.
Brainfinity applies STEAM principles, which encourage the development of the children’s science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics skills. In addition, they provide other academic and life skills, such as media literacy, resourcefulness and a proactive approach, which help the children develop their personalities and achieve top results.
The idea is to include high school students in future editions of Brainfinity and to introduce the concept behind the contest to as many teachers as possible, given that they are the starting point of every change.
